Writing a nonfiction book is not just putting words on paper. It means creating a tool that transforms lives and can take your business to the next level. However, the journey from idea to manuscript can seem overwhelming.

That's why we started the series Simplified Selfpublishing on my YouTube channel, where I show you step by step what to do. In this article I summarize the key points from the first episode.

What business stage are you in?

The first step is to understand your context:

  • Do you already have experience and expertise that you want to put into a book?
  • Want to take your personal brand to the next level?
  • Are you growing or scaling your business?
  • Or do you simply feel now is the time?

Your book should be aligned with the stage you're at.

What is the aim of your book?

A nonfiction book can have several aims:

  • Confirming your authority in the market
  • Increase and facilitate sales
  • Diversifying the portfolio of products and services
  • Creating or strengthening a community
  • Generating an additional source of income

Clarity here will dictate the direction of your manuscript.

You don't write about something, you write for someone

Another key element is audience. Who is the reader you are writing for? What age, income, education level? The more specific you are, the more impact your book will have.
