“Change your attitude towards weights! You're allowed to get a little bit too hard. Get a little angry!”
I hear from my coach today, as I was literally wrestling with some dumbbells that seemed a bit too big for me.
That's what a good coach does. It gives you philosophical problems to think about, during which time, out of nowhere, some other forces come along to help you finish what you set out to do.
Not only am I done but I used this metaphor in all of my consulting sessions today. Double win! And to make it triple win I'll leave you below 3 things I learned, maybe it will help you on your journey.
- Weight training is an essential activity in entrepreneurship and in life. Like any sport it pushes your limits and puts you in uncomfortable situations.
- Hardships, in business and in life, are opportunities for growth. They are not “proof” that you are not enough, not worthy, not for you. Give yourself a little. You'll see they eventually give in. And you move up another rung.
- Choose a “coach”, whatever they are called (guide, coach, trainer, mentor, consultant, expert, author) and go with them, even if you find it hard/uncomfortable/out of your comfort zone. That's why he's there, to create a safe (not easy) environment in which to grow.
PS: Obviously, it's not me in the picture. The last thing on my mind was taking a selfie. I do appreciate the results of sustained effort though. That's what happens when you “give a little” to the weights.
