When I heard about the concept of writing a book that is both good for my audience and very profitable for my business I got annoyed. The more I listened, the angrier I got.
I got annoyed because I had just published a book (6th) where I had blocked 13.000 Euro + another 4000 invested = 17.000 Euro for 2000 of copies I didn't know where to keep. Before her, I had published on Amazon and was also a ghost writer on several occasions, including a novel published in English. In other words, I thought I had single-handedly exhausted all the possible options of being a successful author and that ... I had failed. And I was annoyed that I didn't know and that I didn't think it could be otherwise and that it had nothing to do with what I deserved but a strategy I didn't even know I didn't have. And I wasted time and energy and money.
It was November 2014 and I had just launched this book #6. A friend of mine (I'll tell you who he is because he did me a lot of good at the time - Liviu Păsat) knew about this bootcamp, entitled Publish a Book and Grow Rich and he actually pestered me every day until I went.
The concept of write a book with a dual purpose - to do good in the world and profit in your own business. My nerves passed quickly and I started taking notes. I knew exactly what I had done wrong and what I was going to do next. Along with 200 other people, I listened fascinated to Gerry Robert, the bootcamp facilitator, a guy with enough charisma and notoriety to work with the likes of Bob Proctor and share the world's big stages with Tony Robins and Sir Richard Branson. He was the best speaker I had ever heard and he seemed to have made a super power out of empowering people. I still remember sitting there in the room looking at him and thinking. “I want to be like this guy.”.
Two and a half days later came the offer to work on a book with him and his publisher, Black Card Books. It was just not something I had ever seen before as an offer from a publisher. It was something much cooler, international and ... 20,000 euros more than I have in my accounts. I mean it was really 20.000 Euro :))) (price for Romania, he said, and so it was. In the US it sold for 40.000 USD).
I don't know who pushed me all the way to the back table where his team was finalizing contracts. Neither how I signed, nor how I paid the down payment with all the money I had at the time, 1000 Euro on a credit card.
I'm not going to tell you how many days I didn't sleep and how much effort I put in, how many meditations, visualizations, mantras, and practically every personal development tactic I knew. I had 30 days to pay the difference.
At that time I was growing my first business, a small marketing agency supporting a healthy lifestyle community. We had 40,000 members and enough business partners. I was organizing my own fairs and exhibitions and people knew me as Andreea who did Marketing for a healthy lifestyle ... and green juices.
Before I had been Andreea from the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce, spokesperson, facilitator of negotiations between Romanian companies and their potential partners. I've learned business from sitting among dignitaries, heads of state, managers and business owners all over the world. Obviously, theory and practice are two completely different things but everything I saw and learned has served me and still serves me today.
So, I had 30 days to do what I had never done in my life... 20.000 Euro. Not for a down payment, not to finance a business idea, but to succeed with my expertise and experience (in other words, something incomprehensible to most people who knew me). Yes, I already had some good years of experience in various fields where I had thrown myself into nothingness and succeeded. We already had a better grasp of reality. I knew I had it all, the good and the bad. I knew what conscious manifestation meant and I knew where the potential was. Only, as you know, from theory to practice is very uncomfortable. Directly proportional to the greatness of your objective. So, I was uncomfortable MAXIM.
I knew from the bootcamp how I would use my book, the cover was ready very quickly and based on it and the promotion plan that I had devised with Gerry I closed the first 4 partnerships which brought me 13.000 Euro in 10 days. If I had worked with a manifestation guru they would have bragged about my results 🙂 because the people who supported me had been clients before but had never given me more than a few hundred euros. Yes, ten days after bootcamp I started sleeping at night. Then things got easier. I've been invited to speak on stages around the world about my book. The first time was in London in front of an audience of 200 business people. They liked me so they called me again, 5 days later, for another audience.
My mentor at the time said: „It took me 15 years to become an international speaker. You did it in 3 months!” - I had succeeded because of the decision to publish a book with intention. And I had come out of the belief that a small-town girl can't or doesn't deserve to see her boldest dreams realized. On your own.
What was card#7 actually? An investment in myself and the way I see the world. I wasn't writing my first sales book, nor my last, but I was writing it from my perspective, experience and expertise at the time. And often to get started you need a summary by someone closer to you. The book itself had its moments of glory, Bestseller on Amazon and mentioned by major media channels such as CNN, FOX, ABC and NBC. But book sales were not my goal. I've known that ever since and that's exactly what happened. Because every contract after the book's announcement had an extra zero in the offer, or some extra digits anyway. And in general, the trust he gave me has never been taken away by anyone else. And Gerry hired me to teach his other authors what I had done :D.
For 4 years my life went in different time zones, with more meaning and impact than I could have ever dreamed. Because the way I was helping authors went beyond writing and publishing a book. We create whole businesses and sales strategies for them and help them get exactly where they want to go. In time I made it to the front line of Black Card Books. I had already generated $4M for them. And it all started from the crazy idea that I could write a book in a different way than I had done before, with the best in the world.
When I became a mom, The collaboration with Black Card Books came to an end and I put all thoughts and plans related to the industry on hold. When I resumed my professional activity in Romania, I did it in marketing and sales. We help expertise-based businesses multiply their revenue and impact in the world (as I had seen that it was possible and as I had helped so many others in Canada and the United States).
With this in mind I also got my certification in StoryBrand - a specific and very gentle way to promote yourself using the power of storytelling. It's just that so many of the people I worked with asked me to teach them how to write books 🙈🙈🙈
I guess the power of my intention to be like Gerry was stronger than anything 🙂
It also mattered that I remembered how long it had taken me to publish and sell my books in the past. And the reality that so many mediocre books sell well while very good but unpromoted books give their authors the impression that there's something wrong with them. And the maximum was the realization that an author usually gets 5-6 lei from each book that sells, if it sells.
So I took on the challenge of creating a program that would work in Romania, for Romanian authors, a program that would help them write books that would be transformative for their audiences and profitable for them. That's how Print&Profit, which is NOT the Romanian version of Instant Author Program, came about. It would have been very easy to do that but I had enough experience to know that it wouldn't have worked in all cases.
Instead, I've put together 10 years of publishing, marketing, sales and entrepreneurship into a method that works for any book, as long as the author owns her success. It contains everything that's relavant in the program that I've invested in as well as many other aspects that I've accumulated over time, from working directly with over 700 authors in the international environment, marketing and sales certifications, coaching programs, therapy sessions (my own) and the hundreds of books I've read in the field.
And today, Over 100 Romanian authors are already publishing books with me. Those who have launched so far have done so with joy, with confidence, with the foundations of a business created, with minimum investment and maximum profit, with the certainty that are on the same level of merit as any other bestselling author in the world and that their goal of books sold and lives changed has a plan. PFor most it's their very first book, which makes me very happy. It means I've saved a lot of the frustration I felt with the first book.
I know now that this program is part of my personal mission, and I thank everyone who kicked my butt to take the next step when it was most uncomfortable.
